Washington, DC is a unique city with a distinct aesthetic and energy. This work is a wall mural that I proposed for a master’s digital illustration course. The wall graphic aims to represent everyday Washington, DC in a way that many outsiders are unfamiliar with. DC has a reputation for being a stuffy, polished, and political city. This work aims to present it in a way that is softer, less refined, and happy. Being the Nation’s Capital, many people visit DC with a preconceived expectation. This proposed work would hypothetically be installed just outside of the airport or train station, and visitors to the city would be greeted by the mural. The mural would provide an experience of dropping existing expectations and allowing viewers to perhaps develop a new perspective on our Nation’s Capital upon arrival to it.
